Graduate Work

The Road Less Traveled

Throughout my life, I have had various passions come and go, but two that have remained the same are teaching and gymnastics. While everyone was supportive, when I decided to leave teaching to coach gymnastics full-time, I surprised my friends, my family, my co-workers, and even myself. However, it didn’t take long before I discovered that whether working with a child as a student or as an athlete, my goals for them as their instructor were remarkably similar.

GOAL REFLECTION

One of the things I love most about being a teacher is that I also get to be a life-long learner. I have loved getting to be a student again in completing my master's program, but I believe that teachers can be learners in their own classroom as well. More than that, like their students, teachers can have learning goals for themselves too. My teaching experiences and graduate courses have led me to find different passions and interests that I did not previously know I had. I cannot wait to continue to pursue these interests and put them into practice!

Where Am I Going?

FUTURE GOALS

Growing up, I was always confident in the path my life would take. From the time I was in eighth grade, I knew where I wanted to go to college, and what I wanted to major in. I knew the grade I wanted to teach, and even had a dream school where I wanted to work one day. Being a reader and writer all my life, I did not think twice when declaring Literacy to be my focus for my master's program. Although I have learned a lot, the courses that impacted my teaching and personal growth the most were not my courses directly related to my focus. My graduate program has changed me - only not in the ways that I always expected.
